KRA PIN Online Certificate Application, Registration and Checker

A guide on how to apply for Kenya Revenue Authority – KRA PIN certificate online in Kenya. KRA PIN Application / Registration has now been simplified.

Kenya Revenue Authority PIN Application / Registration Portal

KRA has recently migrated from ITMS system to the new iTax system. Here is the instruction on how you can register your own PIN using iTax system.

KRA PIN Online – Procedure

 Step 1: Access the KRA iTax Portal

First of all, you need to click on this link to access the KRA PIN Portal iTax system website – https://itax.kra.go.ke or you can search on Google the word “iTax kra” and you should be able to get the website link.

 Step 2: New KRA PIN Registration

If you are unregistered user and would like to register your PIN, then on the right column you will be able to see a link named “New PIN Registration” under the Unregistered Users. Click on that link to proceed.

Step 3: Select KRA Pin Application Form

Once you have reached this point, you will need to select the Taxpayer Type you fit in on the drop down field. The options available are;

Individual – personal, students, employee, entrepreneurs

Non Individual – for businesses and companies

You will also be expected to select the Mode of Registration whether it is “Online Form” or “Upload Form”.

 Step 4: Fill your Basic Information

You will now be required to fill in your information on this form with accurate details. Once you complete inputting your details, you will need to click “Next” in order to proceed to the next section.

 Step 5: Taxpayer Obligation Details

KRA has added some new improvement on the way you will need to meet the tax obligation requirements. In the previous ITMS, you were only expected to tick a check box. However on the new iTax system, you are expected to put the registration date next to your tax obligation that you have selected.

Step 6: Source of Income

iTax system has brought in a new requirement that will expect all taxpayers to mention their source of income.

  1. Employment Income
  2. Business Income
  3. Rental Income

Step 7: Agent Details

KRA has introduced a new regulation on the PIN registration which will require that you have an authorized Tax Agent to submit your application on your behalf. This means that you simply can’t finish the PIN registration process by yourself.

Once every field has been filled with correct information you will be able to submit the information. However in the event you had forgotten to fill a field, an Error Tab will appear and inform you the sections where you have not completed before you can proceed.

Step 8: KRA PIN Certificate Download and Printing

When you successfully submit your information, you will be able to see a message saying “Registration Application has been Submitted Successfully.” Your new PIN will be displayed on the screen and you will also be to see a link labeled “Click here to download PIN certificate” that will allow you to download your new PIN and print. That’s it.

However if you need to confirm the details of a PIN of a third party which is in your possession please use the PIN CHECKER link on www.kra.go.ke

The KRA PIN Checker allows you to search and confirm whether or not a particular PIN is genuine. A genuine PIN will have been generated by the KRA – Domestic Taxes Department System, stored and is in current use. The Information provided by the checker is limited to only PIN numbers and names.

Your username is your pin You will  be required to use the ‘Forgot password‘ function on the kra portal  to get a new set of log-in credentials to access your account

If a company changes its name, do they need a new PIN & VAT or they can use the one in their old company name

They dont need a new pin they should apply to KRA for change of name, the certificate of change of name should be presented with the application.
