About HELB

The Higher Education Loans Board (HELB) was established by an act of Parliament CAP 213A of 1995. When it was establish it took over all the function and the responsibilities of management of higher education financing which was by then being managed by the University Student Loans Scheme (USLS) a department in the Ministry of Education

Who qualifies for TVET HELB Loan and Bursaries?

  • HELB provides Technical, Vocational & Education Training (TVET)loans and bursaries to eligible applicants in the public TVET Institutes recognized by the Ministry of Education (MoE), a member of the Kenya Association of Technical Training Institutions (KATTI) and placed by Kenya Universities and Colleges Central Placement Service (KUCCPS)
  • HELB awards bursaries to extremely needy students pursuing Diploma courses, in Institutes recognized by the TVET authority (TVETA) and registered with Kenya Association of Technical Training Institutions (KATTI)
  • Direct Entry Self-Sponsored Students in the public Technical, Vocational & Education Training (TVET) Institutes recognized by the Ministry of Education (MoE), and a member of The Kenya Association of Technical Training Institutions (KATTI)

Nyandarua Institute of Science and Technology is fully recognized by Ministry of Education and a member of Kenya Association of Technical Training Institutions (KATTI)

How do you apply?

Registration

Visit www.helb.co.ke to register.

  • For this process this are some the essential requirements you need to fulfil first
  • National Identity Card (required)
  • Working email address- for registration and future logins and communications with the board. Note that you can open a free email account with major providers like Gmail, Yahoo Mail.
  • After registration ensure you activate your account by clicking on the activation link that will be sent to your email.

Log in and Loan Application Form process

Log in, select and fill in the required Loan Application Form (either First Time or subsequent) for the respective program (TVET) from the HELB website.

Loan Application Form Filling and Signing

Print two copies of the duly filled Loan Application Form.

Have the form appropriately filled, signed and stamped by the relevant authorities and guarantors (for first time applicants only) and by the Dean (for subsequent applicants)

The form has a checklist but this are the declarations that have to be filled and signed, and stamped manually

  • Parent/Guardian declaration
  • Priest/Kadhi
  • Chief/Assistant Chief
  • Commissioner of Oaths/Magistrate(Most charge a fee of between Kshs 300-500)
  • Institution Certification(Done by the Dean of Students at Nyandarua Institute of Science and Technology)

Signing the Form and attaching documents

Sign the form and attach all the necessary documents as indicated in the checklist appearing on the last page of the Loan Application Form.

  • Passport Size photo(Costs about Kshs 100 in a photo studio)
  • Copy of Applicants ID No
  • Copy of Admission Letter(Send to you or provided on admission, copy of which can be given in the Registrar’s office)
  • Copy of Parents’ Id(Father and Mother)
  • Copy of Guarantors’ ID Cards(TWO GURANTORS)
  • Copies of Death certificate if orphaned(Mother and Father)
  • Copy of KCSE Result slip
  • Signed, stamped all parts
    • Commissioner of Oaths/Magistrate
    • Guarantors(By Advocate/Magistrate)

MAKE SURE you sign the agreement form or else your loan shall not be processed

Presenting the Duly Completed TVET HELB Loan Application Form

Present one copy of the duly completed Loan Application Form (ORIGINAL) and all the attached supporting documents at any of the following: Retain one copy of the duly Filled loan application form
